What is Paintball?

Paintball is a sport in which participants eliminate opponents from play by marking them with paintballs fired from a paintball marker. Paintball is like a more challenging, high-stakes version of tag, hide-and-seek, or capture the flag.

This is a high-energy, adrenaline-filled sport. Paintball utilizes and develops various skills including reflexes, concentration, communication skills and teamwork. Playing paintball is a great activity for improving physical fitness, reducing stress, improving concentration and just plain having FUN!

Is there a minimum age to play paintball?

Yes, Massachusetts requires that participants must be at least 10 years old to play paintball.

Does it hurt to get hit by a paintball?

Most times paintballs break open upon impact, and generally cause very little pain. Any pain experienced is more of a stinging sensation from the paintball's impact against the skin or through clothing. It's more like being hit with a snapped towel or elastic. Typically, the stinging goes away after a few seconds. Of course, the closer you are to the barrel of the marker, the higher the velocity of the paintball when it hits you. Thus, more pain may be experienced when shot at close range rather than farther away. At Monster Paintball, we enforce a "10-foot Surrender Rule" with non-tournament players. This rule prevents close-range shooting ("bunkering").

Generally, after a day of playing paintball, one can expect a few trophy welts to brag about.

Is Paintball really safe?

Like any other activity or sport, there is always the potential for injury. However, standard safety rules, and the proper use of approved safety equipment have made paintball one of the safest participatory sports. In fact, insurance company statistics have shown that more people are hurt golfing and fishing than playing paintball.

When on the field, players must ALWAYS wear approved paintball protective goggles which are part of a paintball mask which protects the eyes and face. When not on the field, barrel bags are placed over the barrel of the paintball gun. This prevents paintballs from leaving the barrel. Safety is repeatedly stressed at Monster Paintball. Safety instructions are given before play and referees/staff members oversee the players throughout the facility. Finally, as all paintball fields should, Monster Paintball limits the velocity of the paintball marker. Players who fail to obey the safety rules may be forced to sit out for a game or two. Blatant disregard of safety rules could result in the player being removed from the field for the day or longer.

Will the paint wash out?

Yes. The paint used in paintballs contains polyethylene glycol, and other water soluble elements. This means that it will wash out completely. It is best to wash your clothes when you get home from playing rather than waiting a few days.

OK, Paintball sounds exciting, how do I get started?
